Weather Bomb!

Back online! YAY!
Apparently we've just experienced a "weather bomb" the weather network tells me that

Weather bombs are the most severe of all winter storms. They are characterized as intense low-pressure systems with a central pressure that falls 24 millibars or more in a 24-hour period.

Weather bombs are known for dumping heavy amounts of rain and snow, producing hurricane-force winds, and creating high surfs that cause severe beach erosion and coastal flooding.

The biggest problem we had was over 30 hours without power. It went out about 5pm on Tuesday night - I had one side of my sausages browned - dh brought pizza home with him. Of course no power when you're on tank water means no water which is a slightly bigger problem. The kettle was full and I had lots of carbonated water - interesting to clean your teeth with! I had a purse size bottle of hand sanitiser - thankfully it goes a long way. The toilet poses a problem, there is only so long you can leave it without flushing - we ended up bucketing some slightly green water from a trough to do this with.
Wednesday we woke and there was still no power. Dh fired up the BBQ and boiled a pan of water and we figured we might as well cook the bacon that was in the fridge rather than have it go off anyway. The boys went to work and gym and I got to stay home in a cold house with no power and water - that was pretty depressing. When I rang the power company prior to picking up G they had no idea when power would be restored so I collected him and took him to McD's for hot chocolate and something to eat - that was the first time I'd felt warm all day.

We had a funny conversation

G: A pity there's no power I was looking forward to playing patience on the computer
Me: I'll show you how to play with real cards
G: Can you do that?
Me: Yes, how do you think I played when I was your age? We didn't have computers then
G: Really? But you had PacMan though didn't you?
Me (laughing): No G, not until I was much older than you are.

So last night I drove 30km to a friends house, even though our music practice was cancelled, just so I could have a shower, a hot cuppa and fill my hot water bottle up! At least I slept last night. Sometime in the wee small hours of the morning, we're guessing about 3am, the "electricity gods" returned power to us.
We've had a little bit of electrical damage. Dh's controller to his side of the electric blanket is "fried" but my side still works and the surge protector that the computers are hooked up through is also "toast". Fortunately, it seems that dh actually bought a good one with a lifetime warranty so a replacement is being sent out to us. Pretty cool.

We lost our power for around 9 hours - that was bad enough! I did comment at the time that at least we weren't on tank water that relied on a pump!
