His Dark Materials

Absolutely brilliant. I loved the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman. The first book is the story from which The Golden Compass movie was made. I haven't seen the movie and to be honest I don't see how it can be anywhere near as good as the books were, I was totally captivated. The story centres around Lyra and Will, young children who end up exploring parallel worlds whose fates are interwoven. It's a fabulous fantasy with wonderfully developed characters including armoured bears, witches and daemons. I could clearly see the story playing out in my mind as I read. I must search out more of Philip Pullman's work, I like his style.
