DSP blog prompt: Microwaves

Blog Prompt: The microwave oven was introduced by The Tappan Company on October 25, 1955. Do you use your microwave and if so what do you like to use it for?

I use my microwave all the time, it was like losing a friend when my last one broke. I cook all my vegetables in it, no boiling away their goodness for me - even potatotes. I use it to stew fruit, cook rice, reheat meals I've cooked and frozen. I don't usually cook meat in it except mince recipes such as my less than authentic "spag bol" which is quick and satisfying and it does a good corned silverside too. I've never had great success using it for baking and desserts though in desperation I've discovered the odd acceptable recipe.
Without the microwave my son would never get porridge becauses there is no way I'm going to stand stirring something that disgusting on the stove. My husband would also never have a hot meal as he doesn't get home from work until hours after we've eaten. Thanks to the microwave he doesn't have to suffer food that has dried up in the oven, a quick zap and his dinner his ready to go. Then there are it's wonderful "life-saving properties" when you've forgotten to pull something out of the freezer - the defrost button to the rescue. The microwave is my friend, I don't know what I'd do without it.

Great post! I found a way to cook meatloaf and chicken in the microwave. Cover w/ cream of mushroom soup, cook on medium, done in 20 min. (meatloaf - cook for 10 min. first, drain grease, then add soup for remaining 10 min.)
