First book of the year

I've just finished Darkfall the first of the Isobelle Carmody Legendsong series. A very interesting book about two sisters who find themselves separately plucked through a portal into another world and become part of the politics and legend of the world. It's quite complex segueing from one world to another and different participants within the story. Fascinating. I can't wait to read the next instalment Darksong. I have it on order from the library, apparently it's "in for repair". I love how we can access the library catalogue online.

I was introduced to Isobelle Carmody by someone I worked with last year when she loaned me The Obernewtyn Chronicles.

These take place in a "post-holocaust" world where "mutants" have developed extraordinary mental powers. The story centres around Elspeth and her struggles against the ruling regime who would have mutants put to death. There is plenty of intrigue, adventure, romance. When I read these all else was put aside they were so gripping. Now I impatiently await the release of the final book in the series which is rumoured to be at the end of the year.
