Yesterday: baked & burgled!

Yesterday was Dad's 65th birthday - it's hard to believe it when your parents become pensioners!
We were having a potluck dinner at his place so after work I set about baking a Lemon and Spice Apple Tart, a recipe I'd had on one side to try for quite some time. There were a few alterations - I was short on time so I used ready made sweet shortcrust pastry instead of making the dough and I used Macadmias instead of walnuts and left out the breadcrumbs/almonds because I didn't have any. A lot of the quantities are a vague 1-2 cups - if you use the larger measurement you end up with enough filling for two tarts - we have another for our dinner tonight! Which is no hardship because it was very nice.

While I was merrily running around baking and producing birthday cards somebody nicked the television that was in the garage. The boys swore it was there when they left home in the morning, I can't remember if it was there or not when I got home from work at lunchtime. We surmise that after I came home someone came down the drive saw the TV through the garage window, found the side door open and helped themself. Nothing else was taken. They're going to be sorely disappointed though, the only reason we had a TV in the garage was because it went up in a puff of smoke several weeks ago and was waiting for the next inorganic rubbish collection. I hope it sets their house on fire! Still, it doesn't make you feel particularly comfortable if you have to keep every door locked while your actually at home.
