The Great Papakura Knit Out
On Saturday afternoon I popped in to The Great Papakura Knit Out. I had so much fun. It was a great event and raised $1500 for Save the Children.
I bought a couple of raffle tickets with my loose change and actually won something. I got a Noodle Scarf kit supplied by The Rare Yarns Company. The colours are lovely, better than the photo suggests - the darker yarn is more grey than the brown it looks here.
There were "Learn to knit socks" lessons which I was soon hooked into. Ashford had donated some sock kits consisting of a ball of Opal sock yarn, set of bamboo needles and pattern for a baby sock.
As you can see I've finished my first sock! I'm inordinately proud of myself. Loved the bamboo needles to use, very comfy. I've only ever used metal previously and they don't slip out like my usual DPNs. I wonder how well bamboo last? I am completely hooked on the Opal yarn - love the colours and patterns and how it feels to knit. My plan is to make the pair of socks and knit the pixie hat to give to the One Day School teacher who is going on maternity leave. I also bought two more balls of yarn for ME!
